Description
Because of the low thermal expansion and also for cost reasons ferritic stainless steel grades are used in automotive exhaust systems as an alternative to austenitic stainless steel grades even though they have a worse formability than the latter ones. Due to the lower formability these grades are much more challenging for the processor. The necessary know-how for series production is not only focused on the forming process but does also include comprehensive knowledge about the heat treatment of this materials.
